Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of Frequently Asked Questions, if your question isn't asked here please contact us directly.

  • General Questions

General questions relating to energy efficiency schemes around Australia.

    • What is the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Scheme? (VEET)

The Victorian Energy Efficiency Target (VEET) scheme, which commenced on 1 January 2009, aims to encourage the uptake of energy efficient technology, initially in the residential sector. The VEET scheme plays an important role in achieving the Victorian government’s target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from households by 10 per cent by 2010 and Victoria’s overall emissions to 60 per cent by 2050.

    • How does VEET Scheme work?

The VEET scheme operates by imposing a legal liability on large electricity and gas retailers in Victoria (known as relevant entities) to contribute to energy efficiency measures by acquiring and surrendering Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs). A penalty will be imposed on entities that fail to surrender sufficient VEECs to meet their liability.

    • What is the Energy Saver Incentive?

Under the VEET scheme, accredited persons are eligible to create VEECs for prescribed activities undertaken at residential premises. Each VEEC created represents one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2-e) abated by a prescribed activity.

    • What is a Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificate? (VEEC)

“Victorian energy efficiency certificates” or VEEC’s are electronic certificates created after energy saving activities have been performed in your home.

Each VEEC represents 1 tonne of carbon dioxide saved by a “prescribed activity” performed by an accredited person like Green Made Easy.

Once VEEC’s are certified by the Essential Service Commission they may be traded and sold with energy retailers who are then required to surrender them to the Essential Service Commission of Victoria.

    • What programs are available in other states?

Victoria is not the only state to create an Energy Saving Scheme, below are some of the other states that provide similar incentives.

      - SA: Residential Energy Efficiency Scheme (REES)
      - NSW: Energy Savings Scheme (ESS)
      - ACT: Energy Efficiency Improvement Scheme (EEIS)
      - QLD: Smart Energy Savings Program (SESP – Large Scale Commercial Only)
      - WA/NT/TAS: No current scheme
